IDC: Around 70% of Asia/Pacific Organizations Expect Agentic AI to Disrupt Business Models Within the Next 18 months

This IDC Survey document presents and examines select data from IDC’s 2024 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, wave 11, regarding their agentic AI’s adoption, investment intentions, applications, and potential concerns. This study extrapolates and analyzes select data from the responses of 300 Asia/Pacific organizations from different industries. For research purposes, respondents have been segmented into five sizes based on number of employees: 500–999 employees, 1,000–2,499 employees, 2,500-4,999 employees, 5,000-9,999 employees and 10,000 or more employees. All respondents were either the primary decision maker or part of a team that makes decisions related to agentic AI in the Asia/Pacific region.

In the IDC Survey document Understanding Agentic AI Technology Adoption in Asia/Pacific, (presenting select data from IDC’s 2024 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, wave 11, February 2025), IDC found about 70% of Asia/Pacific organizations expect agentic AI to disrupt business models within the next 18 months. Organizations in the region are looking to drive operational efficiencies, improve customer engagement, and enhance decision-making by adopting agentic AI. The survey document presents and examines respondents’ agentic AI adoption, investment intentions, applications, and potential concerns. This study extrapolates and analyzes select data from the responses of 300 Asia/Pacific organizations from different industries.

IDC highlights the rapid evolution of agentic AI in another report, The Rise of Agentic AI: A Perspective into the State of the GenAI Technology Ecosystem. Agentic AI represents the next frontier of artificial intelligence, extending beyond traditional Generative AI (GenAI) by integrating decision-making, task execution, and multi-agent collaboration into enterprise workflows. By combining process automation, prompt engineering, and system-level orchestration, agentic AI empowers businesses with scalable, autonomous AI-driven operations across industries.

“Agentic AI workflows offer a more intelligent approach to adopting and integrating GenAI into business operations. However, it is crucial to recognize the importance of security and trust when implementing these systems. The underlying data ecosystem must evolve to support agent-based architectures by enabling dynamic data pipelines that facilitate the seamless flow of multimodal data across systems. The rise of multi-agent system architectures will represent the next major wave in AI adoption,” says Deepika Giri, head of research, Big Data & AI, IDC Asia/Pacific.

This IDC Perspective highlights the significant trends in agentic AI adoption, showcasing its role in solving organizational challenges and enhancing business outcomes. As enterprises embrace multi-agent system architectures, the focus shifts toward building robust data ecosystems, ensuring security, and fostering automation at scale. With its potential to drive speed, efficiency, and augmented decision-making, agentic AI is set to become a key investment area for businesses navigating the next wave of AI-driven transformation.

While agentic AI presents immense opportunities, challenges around explainability, governance, and data security underscore the need for robust frameworks, dynamic pipelines, and scalable architectures. The report provides key insights into how businesses can harness agentic AI to unlock new efficiencies and competitive advantages in an increasingly AI-driven world.

“Apart from customer care, which is the earliest adopter of agents, ITOps, and research and development are the top two areas in which agentic AI will be integrated across the enterprise," says Surjyadeb Goswami, research director, AI & Automation, IDC Asia/Pacific.
